COLUMBIA, Mo. — Missouri expects to get cornerback Kip Edwards and defensive end Jacquies Smith back from injuries for this week’s football game against top-ranked Oklahoma.
Edwards missed Saturday’s blowout over Western Illinois with a knee injury and also has been dealing with a hamstring injury. Smith dislocated his left elbow. Without those two, Missouri held Western Illinois to one first down and 44 total yards in a 69-0 victory on Saturday night.
• Florida State quarterback E.J. Manuel sprained his nonthrowing left shoulder against Oklahoma. His status against Clemson this week is uncertain.
• Tennessee wide receiver Justin Hunter suffered a season-ending knee injury against Florida.
• Stanford linebacker and leading tackler Shayne Skov is out for the season with a left knee injury.
• Wyoming senior defensive lineman Josh Biezuns has been named the Mountain West Conference co-defensive player of the week. He forced one fumble, recovered one fumble, had two sacks and five total tackles in a 28-27 win at Bowling Green.
• UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel is shuffling his quarterbacks for the third time in three weeks, confirming Richard Brehaut will start at Oregon State on Saturday.
• Michigan State tackle Skyler Burkland is expected to miss the rest of the season after dislocating his left ankle against Notre Dame.
North Carolina to vacate victories
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina will vacate all 16 football victories from the 2008 and 2009 seasons, and reduce scholarships as part of self-imposed penalties following an NCAA investigation into the program.
The school also put the football program on two years of probation as a result of the probe into athletes and an assistant coach accepting improper benefits and academic misconduct. The school will also pay a $50,000 fine. North Carolina must appear before the NCAA on Oct. 28 and could face more penalties.
• The NCAA accused South Carolina athletes of receiving $55,000 worth of impermissible benefits and recruiting inducements for getting reduced hotel rates and for their involvement with a mentoring organization.
