The new Marquette Backcountry ski delivers the ease of a snowshoe with the glide of a ski at a cost ($179) cheaper than either.
Short, wide and hollow with quarter- sized scales on the base, the skis can climb the steeps and float the descents. With predrilled holes ready for a variety of telemark and cross country bindings, the rides can easily adapt to either a stiff-booted ski experience or a leather-booted skate.
Made in Michigan with bits of polypropylene, brass, glass and silicone, the skis are fully recyclable with a one-season warranty. For skiers looking for a lightweight touring toy or snowshoers looking to speed up their descent, the Marquette could be a nice addition to the quiver.
