Austin Haldorson, a 6-foot-9 forward at Highland Ranch who is a grandson of University of Colorado All-American Burdette Haldorson, committed this week to sign a basketball letter of intent with Wyoming.
After visiting Wyoming and Nevada, Haldorson said, “I had a gut feeling Wyoming is the place for me.”
He credited new coach Larry Shyatt with making a big impact on the decision, coming from the Florida staff for a second stint in Laramie.
“We talked about how he wanted to turn it around,” Haldorson said.
Haldorson, who also plays lacrosse, said he had in-state offers from Air Force and the University of Denver. He averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots a game last season.
Burdette Haldorson was named to the 1956 and 1960 U.S. Olympic teams. His number (22) is retired at CU.
