COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A woman charged with dragging a tow truck driver to death will be tried in El Paso County.

KRDO-TV reports ( ) that a judge denied a change of venue motion by Detra Farries on Friday. The defense argued fair trial is impossible in El Paso County because of publicity.

Farries is charged with felony hit and run, vehicular manslaughter, vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident in the Feb. 23 death of 35-year-old Allen Rose. Her trial is set for Nov. 7.

Prosecutors say Rose was preparing to tow an illegally parked SUV in Colorado Springs when Farries got in the vehicle and drove away. They say Rose tried to chase down the SUV but got tangled in the tow cable and was dragged for more than a mile.
