GRAND FORKS, N.D.—Coaches in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association have picked Denver to win the league title this season.

The Pioneers received seven of 12 first-place votes in the annual Grand Forks Herald ( ) preseason coaches’ poll. North Dakota got four first-place votes and finished second in the poll, followed by Colorado College, which got the other first-place vote.

Nebraska-Omaha was picked to finish fourth, followed by defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth, Minnesota, St. Cloud State and Wisconsin. The bottom four teams in the poll are Alaska-Anchorage, Bemidji State, Minnesota State-Mankato and Michigan Tech.

Coaches have correctly predicted the champion in four of the last six years. UND won the MacNaughton Cup as league champion last season.
