A 27-year-old man moving with his family from Denver to Simi Valley, Calif., was killed today when the U-Haul truck he was driving crashed in Grand Junction.
Eric K. Bartholomew was pulling a sport-utility vehicle on a trailer behind the rented truck when he lost control and crashed into the piling of an Interstate 70 overpass, according to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.
A family dog, named Sid, also was killed. A cat in a carrier survived. The crash happened just before noon.
Bartholomew’s family and a friend helping with the move were in two other trucks traveling in front of and behind him in the caravan about a mile west of Grand Junction Regional Airport.
