BRECKENRIDGE, Colo.—The Summit School District is discontinuing a popular winter recreation program to give students more time to study for statewide tests.

The winter recreation program gives elementary school students three days to go cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowshoeing, and participate in other winter programs.

District officials tell the Summit Daily News () that the school tests are more important than recreation.

Some parents complain that the school district is missing an opportunity for students to participate in activities unique to the district’s mountain environment.
