The senior leadership of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s office is going on a retreat this weekend at a Beaver Creek hotel to work on strategic planning.

No public funds will be spent on the retreat, said Amber Miller, Hancock spokeswoman.

However, the city has contracted with Alchemy: the Art of Transforming Business — a business-strategy consulting firm with offices in Denver and London.

Senior staffers and their spouses are invited to the retreat.

Any lodging expenses at the Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch hotel, meals or entertainment will come out of private funds, Miller said.

“It’s early in his tenure and if he can say there is no public money going into it, I understand the value of getting out of town from time to time,” said Eric Sondermann, independent political consultant. “I am sure there will be hotels in Denver saying we could have used that money, but this is a minor blip.”
