DENVER—Colorado resort communities are trying to track down tax scofflaws who might not be paying state and local lodging taxes on their vacation rentals.
The resort communities have hired a firm to find tax evaders through vacation rental companies.
The practice is drawing complaints from a rental company that alleges the resort communities are misusing their private information. The resort communities say the practice is legal.
According to the Denver Post ( ), the company is asking the Colorado Association of Ski Towns direct its members Winter Park, Grand Lake, Breckenridge, Dillon, Silverthorne and Frisco to cancel contracts with a company tracking people who are not paying the taxes.
