COLORADO SPRINGS — A jury Monday convicted an ex-Fort Carson soldier of child abuse resulting in death for killing a friend’s infant son.

George Peters, 24, faces 16 to 80 years in prison.

Jurors deliberated for 11 hours over three days before convicting Peters of four counts of child abuse. They acquitted him of first-degree murder.

Prosecutors said the soldier inflicted a blunt-force head injury while caring for Nicholas Johnson, a fellow soldier’s 2-month-old son.
