A grounds maintenance worker at Ute Creek Golf Course grabbed a hose and doused a house fire Monday morning on Tyrrhenian Drive.
Jason Smyth had been filling up a spray tank on Ute Creek’s wash pad when he saw smoke from a home at 2412 Tyrrhenian, just east of the course’s fourth hole. As he went to see what was going on, he saw a woman coming out with two dogs. “I asked if everything was OK and she said ‘No,’ so I jumped over to help out,” Smyth said. “I’m glad the hose was long enough — that was the thought that went through my mind.”
Pulling his hose up to the home’s back door, he saw the kitchen was on fire.
“Flames were up to the ceiling, up on the counter,” Smyth said. “It was a good fire. … I don’t know if I had all of it out myself, but I had the majority of the fire out by the time the fire department arrived.”
