Denver’s Carousel Ball is no longer the over-the-top event it was in 1978, when billionaire Marvin and Barbara Davis welcomed the likes of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Lucille Ball for a grand evening the likes of which the Mile High City had not experienced before. The Davises moved to Beverly Hills in the late 1980s, Marvin Davis died in 2004, and the economy isn’t as robust as it once was. But even a pared-down version of this benefit for the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes is great, as evidenced by the 800 who flocked to the Marriott City Center on Saturday night.
