Boulder police have seen a rash of home burglaries and thefts on University Hill this fall, with most of the crimes occurring in unlocked homes and apartments.
Boulder police Cmdr. Kim Stewart said there have been 26 burglaries on the Hill since Aug. 15, compared to just 15 in the same period last year. Of those, only one involved forced entry.
In all the other burglaries, the thieves entered through unlocked doors and open windows, Stewart said.
“It’s just a crime of easy opportunity,” Stewart said. “Most of the younger folks who lives on the Hill are very trusting and don’t think anything bad is going to happen.”
