Three people were in jail and a fourth suspect remained at large Wednesday in the theft of a puppy from a pet store.

Lone Tree police said the three suspects face charges ranging from conspiracy to theft by receiving after playing a part in the theft of a 9-week-old pug from the Just Pets store at Maximus Drive and South Yosemite Street on Monday night.

Brittany Cooper, 18, identified by police as the person who ran out of the store Monday with the $1,200 dog, remained at large.

The three suspects in custody are Alexandra Kennel, 18; Tyler Ryan Mayden, 18; and Trevor Roarke Power, 19.

The pup was returned to the store about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Lisa Stone, the Just Pets employee on duty at the time of the incident, said a woman later identified as Cooper visited the store Monday. She left, but returned about 5 p.m. She asked to play with the dog again and took the animal into the play area at the front of the store. While she was with the dog, Stone said, an accomplice of Cooper’s distracted Stone by asking for help in the back of the store with kittens. “She kept playing with her and telling me how much she loved her,” Stone said. “When I had my back turned, she bolted.” Weston Gentry, The Denver Post
