A University of Colorado student accused of punching a dorm roommate after making derogatory comments about the other student’s Asian background has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault.
CU police had called the incident a bias-motivated attack, but the Boulder County district attorney’s office declined to file additional bias-motivated crime charges.
According to police, Thomas Frank Ross, 19, and Chris Tetreault, 18, were in another student’s room with a larger group that was playing video games on Sept. 30. According to witnesses, Ross said a bad smell in the room was a result of Tetreault “eating all those Asian noodles,” police said.
