Fatal work injuries edged down to 80 in 2010 in Colorado, the lowest level since there were 77 in 1998, according to a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report released Thursday.

Highway incidents were the most frequent type of workplace fatality last year, accounting for 17 deaths in Colorado. That is down from 24 in 2009.

Fatalities due to self-inflicted injuries rose to 11 in 2010, up from nine a year ago. Work fatalities resulting from being struck by an object or equipment rose from five in 2009 to 10 in 2010, while falls to a lower level were responsible for 10 deaths in 2010 compared to nine a year earlier.
