MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Incumbent A C Wharton has won his Memphis re-election bid, declaring victory after easily besting nine rivals in his quest to become mayor for the next four years. With 96 of the precincts reporting, Wharton received 65 percent of the votes cast to 28 percent for his closest rival, Edmund Ford Sr.
