apountry beat back America’s Team this week.

OK, maybe that’s a stretch, but after years of Denver games being pre-empted in southwest Colorado in favor of Dallas Cowboys contests broadcast out of Albuquerque, things are about to change. The Durango Herald reported Thursday that a deal has been reached ensuring Four Corners football fans this season won’t have to miss another Broncos broadcast.

The problem arises because the area, including Durango, gets Albuquerque television coverage.

“This is only a temporary and partial solution to the bigger problem for Four Corners residents, but this is really good news for Broncos fans in the Four Corners,” Sen. Mark Udall said in announcing the deal.

Um, have you seen this year’s edition of the Broncos, Senator? Some would argue that watching them is cruel and unusual punishment.

That said, Broncos fans are as devoted as any in the NFL and we have no doubt that the Four Corners chapter is eager to witness the Orton/Tebow/ Quinn drama from the comfort of their living rooms.

An A for Bennet. Sen. Michael Bennet continues adding his touch to the national dialogue on education, most recently by having several of his ideas included in teacher training regulations unveiled by U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan. “If we are going to improve student achievement, we have to do a better job of recruiting, training and supporting our teachers,” Bennet said. We agree.

Separation of church and statesmanship. With Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman Jr. in the GOP presidential field, it’s of little surprise that an evangelical Christian has reignited the debate over whether Mormonism is “a cult.” In our view, voters’ focus should be on what Romney and Huntsman have accomplished in their lives and what they are proposing for this country rather than whether they pass a religious litmus test.
