The owner of the Red Lion has begun work to move the temporary bridge to his restaurant, but Boulder County officials say they have not received a permit application for the relocation.

Chris Mueller, owner of the restaurant in Boulder Canyon, said he has begun preparation work to move the temporary bridge about 8 feet to make room for a permanent structure. But that move would require a permit, and the county says it has not received an application.

“He has not contacted us for the necessary permits,” said George Gerstle, director of the county’s Transportation Department. “He is operating on his own, with no oversight.”

The original bridge was wiped out by high waters in Boulder Creek in June 2010. The county gave permission for Red Lion to put in a temporary bridge with the provision that construction on a permanent bridge begin within six months.
