A house fire Monday morning in Aurora displaced four residents.

The fire broke out about 9:50 a.m. in the 2200 block of Emporia Street, said Capt. Allen Robnett, an Aurora Fire Department spokesman.

When firefighters arrived at the single-family home, heavy smoke and flames were visible and the fire was active in multiple rooms. Three of four residents were home at the time; all three safely escaped.

Firefighters had the fire under control about 10:10 a.m., Robnett said.

The house suffered heavy fire, smoke and water damage. Firefighters cut holes in the roof to vent heavy smoke from the attic.

No one was injured. Two pet birds died in the fire. The cause is under investigation. Kieran Nicholson, The Denver Post
