The demand for mental health services always spikes during tough economic times, and Mental Health America of Colorado is fortunate to have friends like Gwen and Moses Brewer.
Gwen, a former chair of the MHAC board, and her husband, a senior executive at MillerCoors, are a very popular couple, so when they agreed to be honored at MHAC’s signature fundraiser, Tribute 2011, it was a given that the dinner would be a big success.
Joanne Davidson describes the evening in her Seen First blog: .
Elsewhere in the city, 215 women gathered at the Seawell Grand Ballroom for Behind the Curtain, a “bistro bites” supper and silent auction of designer handbags, with laughs provided by the creators of “Girls Only: The Secret Comedy of Women.” Chairwoman Sharon Magness Blake says the event raised $115,000 for prostate cancer initiatives of the University of Colorado Hospital Foundation.
The 20th-anniversary Bridge Project Gala, meanwhile, also was a great success, with 500 people gathering at the Grand Hyatt Denver to see Neil Oberfeld receive the 2011 Philip D. and Eleanor Winn Community Service Award.
Charles Jordy and Brian Fun chaired the dinner-dance with Nick and Lauren McGrath, raising $475,000 for the University of Denver Bridge Project, which mentors children in Denver’s public-housing projects.
