BOULDER, Colo.—A Colorado man whose 9-year-old murder conviction was overturned in 2008 because of DNA evidence says he’s not resentful about his wrongful conviction.
The Daily Camera reports () Timothy Masters said Thursday at the University of Colorado Law School that, “The best revenge is to try and live as good of a life as I can and not let them have any more of my life.”
Masters spent nearly 10 years in prison for the slaying and sexual mutilation of Peggy Hettrick of Fort Collins.
Fort Collins and Larimer County paid Masters a total of $10 million to settle lawsuits claiming officials mishandled evidence supporting his innocence.
Fort Collins police Det. Jim Broderick has been charged with perjury in Masters’ trial. He has denied wrongdoing.
Hettrick’s death remains unsolved.
