A 45-year-old man was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon, after his car slammed into the back of a utility van.
The accident happened at 4:41 p.m., at the intersection of North Federal Boulevard and West 80th Avenue, said Trevor Materasso, spokesman for the Westminster Police Department.
The man, whose name has not been released, was driving a gold Volvo sedan when it collided with the back of a utility van, Materasso said. The van’s rear bumper sheered off the top of the Volvo, trapping the man inside.
Emergency crews had to extricate the man from the car, and he was immediately taken to St. Anthony Hospital and Medical Center with serious injuries.
The Volvo driver may have a medical condition that contributed to the accident, Materasso said.
Multiple lanes in the intersection were closed for a short period, as crews worked to clear the accident. Two other vehicles were also damaged in the accident.
