Getting your player ready...

Scott Peterson and Jim Harder had unlucky timing when opening their Players menswear store a month after 9/11, but 10 years later, they are a fixture on the LoDo shopping scene. The two retailing veterans bought a former warehouse space at the corner of Wazee and 15th streets, rehabbed it but left the wood floors and open ceilings, installed a big TV and tuned it to sports stations. They stationed Harder’s black Lab Jake to greets customers, and the pooch is still on duty. The owners’ decision to specialize in “casual, relaxed clothing” rather than suits was smart. “We didn’t try to be too dressy,” says Peterson, noting jeans by Agave and Citizens of Humanity are among their best sellers. They continue to carry a wide range of sports and dress shirts, trousers and jeans, sweaters, outerwear, neckwear, leather belts and shoes. Labels include Scott Barber, Bills Khakis, Cole Haan and Robert Graham. And yes, they will special-order suits. Players, Men’s Sport & Business Casual Wear, 1501 Wazee St. 303-752-9377;
