Eastbound Interstate 270 between York Street and Vasquez Boulevard will be closed from 10 p.m. tonight through 5 a.m. Monday for bridge replacement, guaranteeing major traffic delays through the weekend, the Colorado Department of Transportation says.

In addition, one lane of eastbound and westbound I-270 near Dahlia Street will be closed from 8 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Monday for bridge deck repairs on the bridges over Dahlia.

The closures will be repeated the weekends beginning Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and Nov. 11.

CDOT advises travelers to plot alternative routes, such as Interstates 25 and 70.

CDOT project engineer Bryan Kalliokoski said crews will be rotomilling asphalt, removing and replacing deteriorated concrete, paving and striping.

“The bridge deck work requires paving and with temperatures dropping into the 30s and 40s in the overnight hours, we can no longer work on the Dahlia Street bridges during the weeknights,” Kalliokoski said in a CDOT news release. “By working a full weekend, we have time to conduct the bridge repairs and pave during the daytime hours so the pavement can cure at night.”

When the $1.5 million project is complete by the end of November, six bridge decks will have been rehabilitated:

Eastbound and Westbound I-270 over Dahlia Street

Eastbound I-270 over the Burlington Ditch, which is between York Street State Highway 265 (Brighton Road)

Eastbound I-270 over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad

Eastbound I-270 over the South Platte River, which is near York Street

Eastbound I-270 over State Highway 265.
