A Denver Public Works employee will be recognized Monday by the Denver Police Department for intervening to help a woman who was being assaulted.

The man, David Padilla, will receive the Bill Daniels Neighborhood Hero Award.

According to a release from Denver police, Padilla intervened by helping a woman who was being assaulted by a man trying to pull her from her car on the 3100 block of South Sheridan Boulevard.

Padilla took the man to the ground and held him until police arrived.

“Mr. Padilla’s courageous actions stopped an assault in progress and resulted in the suspect being charged,” according to the release from the department.

The suspect already faced a warrant seeking his arrest on suspicion of aggravated robbery.

The award presentation will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at the Department of Public Works Solid Waste Management Division, 1271 W. Bayaud Ave.

The award is named for Bill Daniels, a cable-television pioneer in Denver known for his generosity to those in need. It is now given through his legacy, the Daniels Fund, a foundation that provides grants and scholarships in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
