AURORA, Colo.—Two firefighters were injured when ceiling material fell on their heads as they battled a fire at an apartment complex started by a cigarette.
Aurora Fire Department spokesman Capt. Allen Robnett says the material fell Sunday on a crew inside the building. The two injured firefighters were able to walk out of the building before they were transported to a hospital.
Both suffered head injuries. One firefighter was released a few hours later, while another was being held for observation.
Robnett says firefighters responded to the fire on a third floor apartment at about 8:30 a.m. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and contain the damage to one room of an apartment at the 20 unit complex.
Robnett says the cause was the careless disposal of a cigarette.
