Levi, a terrier-mix dog trained to sniff for bed bugs and their eggs, didn’t find any of the pests in a Littleton Arapahoe County Motor Vehicle Office.
But the county sprayed the office and the main lobby of the county administration building over the weekend, just in case.
The the office was closed Friday afternoon after a single bed bug was found in a work station.
The dog sniffed for additional pests and also inspected the Clerk and Recorder’s Office, Administration lobby level and public areas of the third and fourth floors at 5334 S. Prince St. in Littleton.
Levi did not detect any bed bugs. According to published reports, trained dogs have roughly a 90 percent to 98 percent accuracy in finding live bed bugs or their eggs.
The motor vehicle office reopened today.
Bed bugs don’t transmit disease, but can be difficult to control. They can easily enter a home or business riding on clothing, backpacks, purses, laundry, old books and suitcases.
A fact sheet on bed bugs is available on Tri-County Health Department’s web site, at .
