Passers-by walking along the small bridge on Lowell Boulevard just north of 136th Avenue might notice a new feature on one of the bridge’s columns in the coming days — an 18-by-16 inch bronze plaque, featuring images of a butterfly, a cat and a shamrock.
The plaque reads in part: “Kelsey’s Bridge” and includes a poem.
The plaque is a memorial to Kelsey Marie Shannon, the slain 13 year-old Westlake Middle School student who disappeared after leaving her home on Oct. 14, 2009. Her body was found near the bridge on Lowell Boulevard on Jan. 21, 2009. In April 2010, Alexander “Alex” Paul Pacheco, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in her death and was sentenced to 48 years in prison.
