JACKSON, Wyo.—The National Parks Conservation Association has recognized Jackson Hole resident Joan Anzelmo for her conservation work while superintendent of Colorado National Monument.
The association has awarded its Stephen T. Mather Award to Anzelmo. The award is named after the first director of the National Park Service.
Anzelmo served as the superintendent at the Colorado monument from May 2007 until her retirement from the National Park Service in July. Before that she served as chief of public affairs for Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks and as chief of public affairs for the entire National Park Service.
The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports that during her last year as superintendent at Colorado National Monument, Anzelmo denied a permit to hold a professional cycling race stage in the park.
