GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Colorado oil and gas companies are preparing to launch one of the nation’s first statewide voluntary groundwater monitoring programs.

The industry is hoping that the tests beginning Nov. 1 will show the public that oil and gas operations don’t pollute groundwater.

The companies plan to test groundwater before and after drilling a well to determine initial water quality and whether drilling had any impact.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel (), the testing would be done where landowners consent, with samples sent to accredited labs for analysis.
