After holding 24 public meetings on $12 million in transit-service cuts planned for January, RTD has amended the reduction to preserve about $1.3 million of the service.
On Tuesday night, a committee of the Regional Transportation District board backed a proposal to alter planned reductions on key bus routes, including:
• Retaining more service on the Route 3 bus through the Windsor Gardens senior housing complex on East Alameda Avenue in east Denver.
• Continuing weekday service east of downtown Denver on the Route 32 bus route to the VA Hospital on East Ninth Avenue.
• Retaining peak-hour service on the Route 67 bus west of the Littleton Downtown light-rail station to assist the new South Jeffco call- n-Ride operation.
• Continuing midday and night service on the Route 120 bus east of the Brighton park-n-Ride to serve the Adams County Justice Center.
• Maintaining every-seven-minutes service peak frequency on the SKIP bus route in Boulder instead of reducing it to every 10 minutes.
• Adding a bus to daily Boulder- Denver intercity regional bus service to improve on-time performance.
• Canceling the planned demise of the Parker call-n-Ride service.
With the preservation of service on these and other routes, RTD’s board will vote Tuesday night on a final service-reduction package that would save the agency $10.7 million next year, officials said.
The RTD board also voted to extend the agency’s current labor contract with Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1001 for one year beginning March 1. The contract was due to expire Feb. 28. Union members already had ratified the extension. ATU 1001 represents about 1,900 RTD employees.
