North American Aerospace Defense Command scrambled two F-16 fighter jets this afternoon after a private plane lost radio contact with authorities.

The plane soon regained communications and landed safely at Centennial Airport at about 5 p.m., authorities said.

The fighters were scrambled from Peterson Air Force Base in El Paso County. A spokesman for NORAD said the decision was made out of an “abundance of caution.”

Information about the pilot, aircraft and the origin of the flight were not available this evening.
