U.S. Highway 285 is back open tonight following a rollover accident involving a semi packed with 59 cows in Jefferson County.

The driver of the truck was not injured but a veterinarian went to the scene to check on the animals.

Corporal Eric Wynn of the Colorado State Patrol said some of the cattle died in the crash, but the number was unavailable. The cattle did not spill out on the roadway when the semi rolled and were confined to the trailer.

The accident occurred around 4 p.m. and was followed by a series closures on both sides of the highway near Indian Hills.
