COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Wall Street protesters in Colorado Springs have been granted a 30-day permit to erect tents, tables and chairs, and a portable toilet on a portion of a downtown park.
The Gazette reports ( ) that such a permit for an event at a park is unprecedented.
City spokeswoman Mary Scott says such long-term permits are usually issued for permanent structures, such as restaurant awnings.
Organizer Jason Waf says the $100 cost for the permit for Acacia Park was paid for by donations.
City officials say the permit can be revoked with 14-day notice if they believe it’s necessary to protect public health, safety and convenience of park users, or of the protesters violate any laws.
