DENVER—Denver police are being forced to seek accreditation for new police academies after budget cuts led to the cancellation of recruit classes in 2008.

Police say the department is still strapped for cash and no classes are expected until 2013.

City Councilwoman Jeanne Faatz tells the Denver Post ( ) police ranks are already lean and will dwindle further through attrition as years pass without rookies graduating from the academy
