Northern Colorado claimed its first regular-season Big Sky women’s soccer championship Sunday with a 2-0 home win over Montana.
Senior Ariel Cook scored both goals for the Bears.
The shutout gave Northern Colorado a record of 7-7-4 overall, 4-1-2 in the Big Sky, tying it in conference play with Portland State.
But because of Northern Colorado’s 1-0 victory against the Vikings this season, the Bears hold the tiebreaker with Portland State and will host this year’s Big Sky women’s soccer championship, beginning Friday, Nov. 4.
The top-seeded Bears will open play against fourth- seeded Montana at 6 p.m. in a semifinal at Jackson Stadium in Greeley.
Lone Tree wins club title.
The Lone Tree Golf Club defeated Battlement Mesa Golf Club 24-12 in the Colorado Golf Association Team Interclub Championship at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora.
In winning the singles matches 17-7 and the four-ball matchups 7-5, Lone Tree became the first public course to claim the Team Interclub title.
CU women’s golfers finish 14th.
The University of Colorado women’s golf team finished 14th with a 35-over-par total of 899 in the SEC/Pac-12 Challenge at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. Alabama won the tournament with a four-shot victory over runner-up UCLA.
