MISSOULA, Mont. — Police officers used stun guns to subdue two University of Montana football players Sunday morning after the team returned following a game Saturday at Northern Arizona.
Sgt. Collin Rose said quarterback Gerald Kemp and cornerback Trumaine Johnson scuffled with police officers who responded to a noise complaint at about 2:40 a.m.
Rose said one player struck an officer in the chest with an open hand and the second player grabbed the officer to prevent the arrest of his teammate.
Both players bonded out of the Missoula County Jail on Sunday on misdemeanor charges that include obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest.
“We are continuing our investigation into the allegations, and will let the judicial system run its course,” Grizzlies athletic director Jim O’Day said in a statement. “Any disciplining will be handled internally through our student-athlete code of conduct.”
AFA update.
Air Force coach Troy Calhoun provided a more positive injury report Sunday than after Saturday’s 37-26 loss at Boise State when he was concerned about a wrist injury to defensive back Anthony Wooding.
Calhoun said Wooding was cleared to practice this week in preparation for Saturday’s game at New Mexico.
However, Calhoun confirmed that receiver Ty MacArthur suffered a broken collarbone and is likely out for the rest of the season. Looking ahead, Calhoun said it’s possible defensive linemen Zach Payne (knee) and Ben Kopacka (elbow) and cornerback Chris Miller (leg) could return to the playing field in the next two weeks.
