DENVER—A union official says an extension of a bargaining agreement for Denver-area Regional Transportation District workers represented by Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1001 is in workers’ best interests, given the economy.

The RTD board of directors last week unanimously approved a one-year extension of the agreement. Current contract terms on wages, benefits and working conditions now will continue through Feb. 28, 2013.

Local 1001 President Julio Rivera says the agreement is in the best interest of both parties due to the current economic climate.
