TOLEDO, Ohio — “Joe the Plumber” has launched his bid for Congress in Ohio as a Republican, saying citizens deserve leaders from all walks of life.

The man whose moniker became a household name during the 2008 presidential race made the announcement Tuesday in Toledo.

Samuel “Joe” Wurzelbacher says he’s running in Ohio’s 9th U.S. House District because he’s angry about the economy and the way politicians try to patch problems with duct tape. He told supporters, “I’m not the kind of plumber who uses duct tape.”

He rose from obscurity in 2008 after questioning then- candidate Barack Obama.
