In more than seven years, Bodi, an 11-year-old Belgian malinois police dog, helped located 49 suspects and assisted with 119 arrests.
After 509 deployments, Bodi is retiring, according to a news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Bodi joined the department in February 2003 and served his time with Officer Troy Rosenoff. During his time, Bodi helped sniff out evidence from numerous crime scenes including clothing, guns and knives.
In 2009, Bodi was deployed with a SWAT team to search for an armed felon who had barricaded himself inside a building. Bodi led officers into the building after negotiations failed, and the suspect was arrested after Bodi found him hiding in a bathroom. The dog helped drag the man – who weighted 240 pounds – into the hallway.
In 2010, Bodi helped officers arrest eight men who were armed and suspected of robbery. The suspects were accused of several robberies throughout the county and allegedly shot at people during one of the robberies.
Bodi was called in to search for two of the suspects, armed with a shotgun, who led officers on a short foot chase. A short time later, Bodi located officers to the pair.
