DENVER—Las Animas County commissioners are among parties challenging a proposal before the Colorado Supreme Court over new legislative boundaries.
Legislative lines are redrawn every 10 years based on updated U.S. Census data to balance population in the various districts.
A proposal submitted to the state Supreme Court would split Las Animas County into two House districts in the Colorado General Assembly. County Commissioner Mack Louden tells The Pueblo Chieftain ( ) the county wants to be kept whole.
He says county commissioners submitted their challenge to the Supreme Court on Friday, ahead of the deadline Monday.
Weld County commissioners also oppose the proposal. They want to increase Weld County’s representation in the House.
