A man suspected of pilfering through lockers at a Littleton gym was caught at the 24 Hour Fitness at 2650 W. Belleview Ave. Tuesday with stolen loot on him, police said this afternoon.

Employees at the gym had suspected 29-year-old Joseph Scot Nerud in two previous thefts from lockers at the gym. When he returned Tuesday afternoon, they called police.

An office found Nerud in the men’s locker room with “stolen property on his person,” Littleton police said in a media release today.

He faces third-degree burglary and theft charges.

Nerud has an arrest record that includes alcohol and drug charges, records show.

He pleaded guilty in August to a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance in Denver, after he was originally charged with a felony possession charge.

He was sentenced to two years of probation, according to court records.

Nerud, who is white, does not fit the description of a man Denver police are looking for after cars were broken into at two 24 Hour Fitness locations in Denver last week.

Surveillance video shows the man, who is black, take electronics and cash from cars at 24 Hour Fitness at 2770 S. Colorado Blvd. on Oct. 17.

The same man is suspected of breaking into cars at the 24 Hour Fitness club at 7600 East Academy Blvd., about 5 miles away, that morning.

He was described as black, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 155 pounds. He left in a white Dodge Caliber that was missing a front hub cap on the passenger’s side and also missing its front license plate, police said.

There is a $2,000 reward for information that leads to his arrest. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867, text a tip to CRIMES (274637) with the title DMCS or send an e-mail to .
