DENVER—Nearly 40,000 people are without power and a major highway to Wyoming is closed as up to two feet of foot of snow began falling in Colorado.

The National Weather Service said Wednesday six inches of snow has already fallen in some areas along the Front Range, causing nearly 400 power outages, according to Xcel Energy.

Xcel Energy says it’s bringing in crews from Grand Junction to help with repairs, and crews from Texas could also be called on to help

Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman Mindy Crane says U.S. 287 is closed from Ted’s Place to Laramie, Wyo., because of adverse conditions.
