U.S. consumers will pay 3.5 percent to 4.5 percent more for food this year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said today. The department raised its forecast by a half-percentage point.
In 2012, retail-food costs will rise 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent, the USDA said in a report on its website. The estimate was unchanged from a September forecast.
