COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The International Skating Union has recognized the first quadruple lutz done in a sanctioned competition, a jump completed by American Brandon Mroz.
Mroz, of the Broadmoor Skating Club, executed the jump during his short program at the 2011 Colorado Springs Invitational, a U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned competition. The ISU must approve such jumps and has done so Wednesday.
Mroz will make his international season debut at the NHK Trophy, Nov. 11-13 in Sapporo, Japan, part of the Grand Prix series.
He is the second American man recognized as the first to perform a quad jump in competition. Timothy Goebel is credited with the first quad salchow, which he performed at the 1998 Junior Grand Prix Final.
