ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo.—Searchers have found a hiker who reported himself lost in Rocky Mountain National Park, which is covered in more than 18 inches of fresh snow.

Park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson said rangers found 22-year-old Andrew Lund of Branson, Mo., on Thursday, and he was taken to a hospital.

The search began Wednesday after Lund called from a mobile phone to say he was taking shelter under a large boulder. He said he had been dropped off at a trailhead Tuesday afternoon after hitchhiking. Temperatures in the park fell below 25 degrees Tuesday night, and more than a foot of snow had fallen by Wednesday morning.

Patterson says rangers lost phone contact with Lund after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
