Two men dressed as police stopped a car in Boulder County earlier this month and the sheriff’s office today released a sketch of one of the imposters.
The incident happened on October 15, at about 12:35 a.m. on North 79th Street near Highway 52, according to a Boulder County Sheriff’s Office media release.
The man was stopped by “what appeared to be an unmarked police vehicle.”
The driver was approached by a white man, dressed in a dark, police-type uniform and asked for his driver’s license and registration.
The bogus officer wore a name tag that said “Garcia,” along with a silver, metal star-shaped badge.
About two minutes after the stop a second “unmarked” police-type vehicle with flashing lights showed up.
The second suspect was identified by the name of “Reynolds,” the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators describe the first suspect as a white man with a flat-top, military-type hair cut with the sides of his head shaved or very closely cropped. His hair was dirty blonde or light brown.
The victim was unable to describe the second suspect.
The first suspect vehicle is a dark-colored Ford Crown Victoria between the model years of 2006 and 2011. It had flashing lights above the dash and lights on the grill, along with a spotlight on the driver’s side.
Both suspects appeared to have some knowledge of police procedures.
