Boulder police are investigating an early-morning homicide in which one homeless man is suspected of stabbing two others, one of them fatally.
At 1:20 a.m., officers traced a call to the 3100 block of Pearl Street after a man called and reported that he had been stabbed and the suspect was still there, according to a news release from the Boulder Police Department.
After arriving, officers found two men inside the shed, which was apparently being used as a shelter. The two were taken to Boulder Community Hospital and police arrested a man on scene.
At 9:45 a.m., police learned that one of the men died in surgery. The second victim remains at the hospital.
All three men are homeless, police said.
The name of the victims have not been released.
The suspect was identified as 56-year-old Charles Waters. He is being held at the Boulder County Jail.
“The homeless often face dangers most of us do not have to worry about, and this is just another tragic example,” said Police Chief Mark Beckner.
The investigation is ongoing.
