Nine people were displaced after a fire started in the furnace room of a Wheat Ridge home Thursday night.

At 11:44 p.m., firefighters were called to a home at 4195 Eaton St. on a report of a structure fire, said Bob Dowling, assistant chief for the Wheat Ridge Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived, the fire had spread into the room above the furnace room and smoke filled the entire home. The fire caused a water pipe in the home to burst, flooding the basement with water.

All nine people who were home when the fire started were able to get out safely. No injuries were reported.

Smoke and water severely damaged the home, Dowling said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
